Tips n Tricks Offroad - KTM 150SX 2008/09

BIKE: KTM 150SX 2008/09

Topic: Set-up recommendations for the KTM150SX model to suit the Australian conditions.

For the best performance and reliability combination it is critical that the correct jetting and compression ratio be used to suit the riding conditions, following is our recommendations for varying conditions.

16-24C Hard pack track

  • Main Jet 190
  • Idle jet 42
  • Jet Needle  NOZH pos #2
  • Cut Away  6.5
  • Air Screw 1.5 Turn out

This is our suggested pre-delivery jetting, which is richer then how the bikes are delivered from KTM.

Dimension X (upper edge piston-upper edge cylinder) = 0.0 + 0.1mm this must be checked at each top end rebuild.

16-24C Sand track

  • Main Jet 208
  • Idle jet 45
  • Jet Needle NOZ pos #3
  • Cut Away 6.5
  • Air Screw 1.5 Turns out
Dimension X (upper edge piston-upper edge cylinder) = 0.0 + 0.1mm this must be checked at each top end rebuild.

We would also recommend that the SXS cylinder head be used on sand tracks.

Part number SXS10150051 - Available from www.ktmpartsonline.com

This cylinder head has a greater volume 14.8cc SXS compared to 13.8cc STD.

If a performance pipe is being purchased or used please confirm that it is a 125/150SX pipe not a 125SX only pipe, the tail pipe is a different diameter to suit the 150SX.

The 125SX only pipe can raise the combustion temperatures if used.

98 – 100 Octane premium unleaded fuel only to used. Recommended brands are Elf, BP and Mobil.

If your ambient temperatures fall outside the suggested range you would have to adjust the mixtures accordingly.

Tips n Tricks Offroad - KTM SXF 250-350

BIKE: KTM SXF 250-350

TOPIC: The TPS [throttle position sensor] that is mounted to the throttle body and on the SXF250-350 is vulnerable to high pressure water spray.

Suggested preventive measure

  1. As a set up tip during pre-delivery or at the servicing of the SXF250/350 ask your KTM mechanic to seal the TPS with silicone as shown in the pictures below, it is important that the grey area be sealed to the black base of the TPS.
  2. We encourage owners to take care when washing the bike in this area, and do not use direct high pressure water spray on the throttle body.

NOTE- We hope to source a boot in the near future that will further protect this component from high
pressure water spray.

Oil types for the SXF250-350

KTM Australia would also like to clarify the correct oil types for the SXF250-350.
Please use the following:

Note: Motorex Oil is available for purchase at www.ktmpartsonline.com

This will offer the ultimate durability and performance for this bike as it is fitted with a precious metal big end bearing.
